A woman was staying at a local motel in Bakersfield, California, when she found a bed bug in her room. She immediately reported it and the motel management was not very welcoming, according to Bakersfield Now.
"It was just right there on the sheets, crawling," the woman told the news source. "So we put it in a bag and went to the front desk, and we spoke with the general manager, and he basically said that we put it there and didn't take us seriously at all."
However, the motel owner said that they take any bed bug reports very seriously, and that there must have been a misunderstanding. Nevertheless, the motel is going to investigate to see if they indeed have bed bugs, the media outlet reports.
According to the 2011 Bugs Without Borders Survey, the resurgence of bed bugs has been a problem for a few years, and is only getting worse. In hotels and motels alone, the percent of reports has risen from 67 percent to 80 percent over the past year. Those who are trying to prevent bed bugs may want to purchase a mattress encasement to keep them at bay.
