Bed bugs have made their way into a YMCA facility in Vancouver, British Columbia, and members are not pleased, according to The Province.
"A member recently reported seeing a bed bug in a locker room. We have confirmed that there are traces of bed bugs at the YMCA," general manager Vinh Truong told the news source on Friday. We know this is a significant inconvenience to you. We will install bed bug detectors in our locker rooms as soon as possible."
Truong added that the infected areas will be treated on Saturday and reopened after that. He wrote an email to all of the members so that they are aware of the problem, the media outlet reports.
According to Medline Plus, bed bugs are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish-brown and flat. They feed on human blood and hide in mattresses, carpets and crevices in walls surrounding the bed. Those who are looking to prevent these little critters may want to invest in mattress covers, which can trap the bugs until professional help arrives.
