Bed bugs have been a growing problem across the country, and they have been plaguing various facilities including schools, libraries, hotels and even prisons. According to Correctional News, officials and researchers are trying to figure out ways to prevent bed bugs or get rid of them if there is already an infestation.
"After careful laboratory analysis and a two-year field study, we've determined that structural pasteurization, coupled with filtration, proves an effective solution to bedbugs and their associated pathogens," Dr. Sean Abbott, a senior biologist and prime researcher for studies linking bacteria and bed bugs, told the news source.
The researchers also found that heat is a very effective way to get rid of the bed bugs, and that many facilities will use heat methods to get rid of the little insects.
Those who are trying to get rid of bed bugs in their own home may want to wash and dry their linens in high temperatures, purchase mattress covers and hire professional help to ensure that the job gets done right.
