If you find yourself waking up with an unsavory, damp puddle where your mouth was all night, you may be looking for a way to stop your drooling habit once and for all. But did you know that, at least in part, it may be out of your control? Speaking on the Today show, Dr. Keri Peterson noted that allergies tend to lead to worse drooling.
"When you sleep, your muscles relax, your mouth falls open, and if you're lying on your side, it's gonna leak out," she told the news source. "Also, if you have sinus problems, or allergies, and you tend to mouth-breathe, you're gonna be more likely to have this happen to you."
Unsettling news, to be sure, but if you can control your allergies at night you may just see an end to drooling! Use allergy mattress covers to keep allergens at bay while you sleep. Doing this, in combination with making a concerted effort to sleep on your back should put a stop to your nighttime drooling.
