A landlord in Rancho Cordova, California, is being sued for nearly $10 million for damages in 97 apartments that he allegedly did not fix - one of which was bed bugs, according to the news channel KCRA-TV.
The lawsuit is being carried out because the landlord, Juvenal Campos, allegedly did not take care of any of the apartments, which reportedly had bed bugs, mold and cockroaches, according to the media outlet.
"He is facing roughly 150 violations ... He could face fines in the hundreds of thousands of dollars if we continue to come out and things not be done," Kerri Simpson, Rancho Cordova Code Enforcement officer, told the news source.
According to the Mayo Clinic, bed bugs are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish-brown and flat. They feed on human blood and leave red, itchy bumps on the skin in either a cluster or line. Those who are trying to prevent bed bugs may want to purchase mattress covers, which can keep these little insects at bay or trap them until professional help arrives.
