Bed bug incidences have been on the rise in West Lafayette, Indiana, but residents are still uninformed, and it took one apartment four months before they released they had a bed bug infestation, according to the news channel WLFI-TV.
"We want to be notified immediately," Kurt Jacobson, spokesperson for McCormick Place, the building of the concerned renters, told the news source. "We will take care of it immediately and remediate the problem which we did in this case. We know for all the residents like this, it's something that's uncomfortable and that's why we want to take care of it right away."
According to the Mayo Clinic, bed bugs are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish-brown and flat. They feed on human blood during the night, and hide in areas around a bed during the day. Those who are trying to prevent bed bugs may want to purchase a mattress encasement, which can keep them at bay or it can trap the little critters until professional help arrives to get rid of them.
