A North Carolina family was visiting Myrtle Beach this past weekend, and they found some unwelcome guests in their hotel room - bed bugs, according to the news channel WMBF-TV.
"I went up to inspect it before I moved my entire family's luggage," George Stephenson, who brought his family to Myrtle Beach, told the news source. "As soon as I walked into the doorframe I saw bugs."
However, the hotel is claiming that what they found was not bed bugs, and that inspectors cleared the hotel of any bed bug infestations. Stephenson still believes that they were bed bugs, as he spotted them near the bed, the media outlet reports.
According to the Mayo Clinic, bed bugs are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish-brown and flat. They feed off of human blood while people sleep and hide in areas around a bed during the day. The bugs leave red, itchy bumps on the skin in either a cluster or a line. Those who suspect that they have bed bugs may want to call professional help and purchase a mattress encasement to trap them.
