Oscar is a not just a regular dog, as he can do so much more - including sniff out bed bugs infestation, according to the Edmonton Journal.

Oscar travels to various Canadian warehouses every two weeks to make sure that there are no bed bugs. This is especially important in thrift stores, as bed bugs can travel from person to person as they latch onto clothing or furniture. In this case, the bugs will stay in the furniture until they find a human source.

"Bedbugs can hide in a crack the (width) of a credit card. A human inspection, using our eyes, is hit and miss," Christopher Day, Oscar's handler, told the news source. "With the dog, he's not actually looking for them. He's using their pheromones signatures, their scent, to find them. And their scent is left behind even when they are just walking across the surface."

According to Medline Plus, bed bugs hide in various places surrounding the bed, including the carpet, mattress and walls. Those who are trying to keep the bugs at bay may want to purchase mattress covers.
