It was recently announced that the school officials at a Greenwich, Connecticut, elementary school will be steaming classrooms over the winter break to treat for possible bed bug infestations, according to The Associated Press.
The students and faculty reported approximately four incidents in the school, which could have caused bed bugs to find their ways into the students' homes, as they travel from person to person. While the students are home for winter vacation, the school will be completely treated, the media outlet reports.
According to the 2011 Bugs Without Borders Survey, the resurgence of bed bug incidences has led to pest management professionals reporting to an increasing number of complaints in the past year. Bed bugs have been found in schools and day care centers at a rate of 36 percent, whereas it was 10 percent just last year. This is also true for hospitals, movie theaters, office buildings and nursing homes, which have all doubled in number of incidences since 2010.
Those who are trying to get rid of bed bugs may want to purchase a mattress encasement to keep them at bay.
