According to The Jersey Journal, Meadowview, a psychiatric hospital in Secaucus, New Jersey, has had to quarantine two of its patient rooms after bedbugs were found. Patients reported bites, which subsequently led to an investigation that revealed the two rooms had been infested. Patients were moved out and they have been unoccupied ever since.
The rooms were treated by an exterminator, but further investigations led officials to discover one bedbug in each. Following county policy, they were quarantined for 30 days after this second discovery. However, at this point the severity of the infestation will not be known until a third test is conducted.
If you are concerned about dealing with your own bedbug infestations, there are a number of steps that you can take to help safeguard you and your family. Specialized mattress encasements are available that will keep the pests from making their way into your box spring. Maintaining a clean home at a stable temperature and humidity will also create an environment that they would rather not inhabit.
