There has been no evidence of a bed bug infestation in an elementary school in Fort Dodge, Iowa, that send 75 students home this past Tuesday. Officials notified parents that they were extra vigilant to make sure, according to The Messenger.
''The monitors and traps that were set by the exterminators were all clear,'' Mary Lynn Biggins, the school's director of marketing and public information, said in a written statement. ''They will be left for two weeks and checked daily. We would like everyone to know that our top priority is the safety and well-being of our students and staff."
According to the 2011 Bugs Without Borders Survey, the number of incidences in which bed bugs have been reported in schools and daycare centers has increased from 10 percent to 36 percent. These little insects can latch on to people's clothing and move from home to home. Those who are nervous their children will bring home these little pests may want to purchase mattress covers, which can trap them or keep them at bay.
