Bed bugs were found in a high school in Springfield, Ohio, however school officials informed the parents that there is nothing to be alarmed about and gave them information about certain prevention methods and what to look out for, according to Springfield News-Sun.

"We literally don't want to sweep this one under the bed. We want to be obvious about this because bed bugs are a common problem throughout the country right now," superintendent David Estrop told the news source.

However, Estrop added that they do not feel as though they have to report it to parents every time they find one bed bug. They just assess each situation and find the best practice, the media outlet reports.

According to the Mayo Clinic, bed bugs are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish-brown and flat. They feed on blood and can hide in a person's mattress, carpet or crevices in a wall near a bed. Those who are trying to get rid of these little creatures can wash and dry their linens in high temperatures or purchase a mattress encasement to trap them until professional help arrives.
