Residents of Saratoga Springs, New York, went to their City Council Meeting in order to get some attention about the bed bug infestation in their apartments, according to The Saratogian.
"[On] November 7, I found bed bugs in my apartment," Teresa Grocki told the City Council Tuesday night, the news source reports. "I had thought I was losing my dignity by speaking like this, but I find I have found dignity by speaking out."
Grocki continued explaining that the issue was ignored by the management of the building and she had to resort to going to the City Council. She came with a signed paper of eight other people in her building who reported to have bed bugs. They are now waiting to see if the city will do anything about it, the media outlet reports.
According to Medline Plus, these little creatures can travel from person to person by latching onto their clothing or luggage. In order to prevent bed bugs, a person can wash and dry their linens in high temperatures or they can purchase a mattress encasement, which can keep them at bay or trap them until professional help arrives.
