One week ago, the Wilson County Emergency Management Agency's Station One found out that bed bugs had been biting the emergency responders while they slept. Since they discovered them, the responders have been staying across the street until the problem is taken care of, according to the news channel WTVF-TV.
On Monday, a company came in and pumped hot air into the station to kill the bed bugs. The company wanted to take care of the problem right away, as bed bugs can cause sleep deprivation.
"They have to be ready to go at any time," company president Rick Whited told the news source. "What little sleep they do get, they can't be deprived of it, so we need to get these bugs out of here and make sure they rest calmly when they come in from a job."
According to the Mayo Clinic, these little critters are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish-brown and are flat. They feed on blood and leave itchy, red bumps on a person's body. Those who think they have bed bugs may want to purchase a mattress encasement until professionals came to get rid of them.
