A number of apartments in Windsor, Ontario, are being sprayed for bed bugs after multiple complaints were called in, according to The Windsor Star.
Kari Schofield, a communications officer for the housing corporation, explained that pest management companies are also sent within 24 hours of a complaint, but the reports keep coming in.
A program was developed in September to help those who are unable to afford treatment for bed bugs in a home or an apartment.
"The goal of the program is to both control bed bug infestations, and to prevent them from occurring in the first place through public education and awareness," Dr. Allen Heimann, medical officer of health at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, told the news source.
According to the Mayo Clinic, bed bugs are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish brown and flat. They feed on human blood, leaving itchy, red bumps. Those who are trying to prevent bed bugs may want to invest in a mattress encasement to keep them at bay or trap them until professional help arrives.
