The bed bug resurgence has left many apartment complexes infested, and now property managers have even incorporated a "bed bug addendum" to their leases, according to WXIN-TV. However, some leasers do not have the money to spend on exterminators, and it usually isn't just one apartment affected.
An exterminator did come once to Misty Brooks' complex but it did not work. The property managers are now telling her that she has to pay to get rid of the little insects, but she knows she isn't the only one affected in the building.
"I've seen them outside of apartment over there, apartments in the front of the complex, sitting right outside the building, so I know we're not the only apartment that has them," Brooks told the news source.
According to the Mayo Clinic, bed bugs are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish-brown in color and are flat. They feed on blood and leave itchy, red bumps on the skin while the person is sleeping. Those who are trying to prevent bed bugs may want to purchase mattress covers, which can trap them until professional help arrives or can keep them at bay.
