A lawsuit is underway after a company bought an apartment property and found that 25 percent of the complex was infested with bed bugs, according to the Palm Beach Post.
Robert Stok, the attorney who is representing Palo Verde Investors, suggests that the previous management company did nothing to get rid of the problem, as it was so bad when it was inspected after the purchase.
"There was due diligence on our part but you can't expect us to go through every apartment with a microscope and slides," Stok told the news source about inspecting the Palo Verde complex. "The tenants said it was a problem before. It's not something that just happened overnight."
According to the Mayo Clinic, bed bugs are approximately the size of an apple seed, are reddish-brown and flat. They feed on human blood at night and hide in crevices surrounding the bed during the day. Those who are trying to prevent bed bugs may want to purchase mattress covers, which can trap them until help arrives or it can keep them at bay.
