Bed bug infestations have been hitting hard in Ohio lately, and one nursing home recently fell victim to the pesky insects. When staff members of the ManorCare Nursing and Rehab Center in Cleveland noticed bugs on some of the residents' sheets, they called pest control experts immediately, Net News 5 reports. The invasive creatures were found in five rooms in the facility during the first inspection, and three other rooms were treated for bed bugs during the exterminator's second visit.
"It's a really hard thing to get out of the way," Alonzo Winston, the husband of one of the residents, told the news source. "You've got people coming and going all of the time. If you had one group of people that stayed here for the year, you probably wouldn't have bed bugs."
Rusty Vermillion, the health department director for Brown County in Ohio, told the News Democrat that Cleveland, Cincinnatti and Dayton are among the top twenty most infected cities in the nation. These furniture-dwellers are affecting people across the country, and one way to prevent or stop an infestation is to invest in bed bug protection, such as mattress, box spring and pillow covers. The fabric of these covers are woven so tight that the bugs cannot get to people while they sleep.
